NEWS "Dubai DIVOTS"

Following the meeting at the Montgomery GC, we can now update the society and moving forward....

Back in the day.. our founders from left... Richard, Paul, Scott and James, picking up the Best Golf Society Award....

This is very relevant because the Dubai Divots would not exist without their vision and continued support from 2010 right through to today....

Re the AGM… Monday evening at the Monty GC

As you may be aware, we had the AGM on Monday evening.

An Agenda was prepared and issued, however, the meeting took a turn away from the pre-prepared Agenda as some of our members put forward the idea that we dispense with a Captain and Vice Captain and instead have a committee of no less than six to organise events, handicaps and how matches are played and organised, etc.

As the sitting Captain, I sent all of the ideas to our founders, who you may or may not be aware have been continually supporting the society that they formed back in 2010. Scott, Richard, James and Paul originated the Divots and went on to win Golf Society of the year, organised a black tie charity ball and set up the very foundations of the Divots.

Their respective companies have financially sponsored shirts and prizes throughout the life of this society. They, and with other numerous sponsors including NGA and more recently HLG, have meant that since 2010 the Divot Golf Society has raised considerable sums for charity and also that no member has had to pay towards prizes.

These guys set up the system of the Divots, insofar as sponsors are sought for each event, a success story throughout the Divots history. Not many Societies have that to their record.

So, having shared all of the ideas from the meeting with our founders, and whilst they very much appreciate the positive input and ideas raised, it has been decided that the Dubai Divots will continue as we have since 2010, insofar as we will have a Captain, Vice captain and a committee to ensure the smooth running and moving forward of the Dubai Divots.

To that end, and since our Vice Captain, Adam, due to work commitments, is to step aside, our founders have decided to put a previous Captain, Scott Sigsworth as our Vice Captain and for me to remain as Captain.

However, and with full respect to the suggestions and ideas that were raised at the AGM last Monday, we are very open to having a committee to assist and help the Dubai Divots.

Adam Smith will be on the Social Committee, and if others want to put themselves forward, please email captain@dubaidivots.com with your suggestion for how you can help the Dubai Divots. Judging by last Mondays input, we are confident some of you will have much to add.

For the newer members of the Dubai Divots, you may be wondering where our founders have been in more recent times ? You will have seen James and Paul on occasion, but in essence the founding members took a well deserved break due to family and work commitments….

But with Scott now as Vice Captain, I am certain that we will all enjoy the Divots going forward and welcome both the very recent and the new members into our fold.

Finally, it’s simply brilliant that some of you took the time and energy to come forward with new ideas, as it shows how much you love the Dubai Divots. That is very much appreciated… and also a big shout out to Mike Gopal, who has not only sponsored every Wednesday evening with a box of balls as our prize at the Trump Par3, has pledged his companies support to our Charity “Gulf for Good”, but also stood in for me whilst I was away on my travels… Thank you Mike.

We continue with Wednesday evenings at the Trump Par3.. 7.30pm and will also look to vary this by taking on ideas for other venues…

Our next monthly event is at AlAin GC, 11th November… Details on the website events page and more info coming soon.

Thank you everyone, especially all who showed up for the AGM last Monday, it shows that the Dubai Divots are not only strong and supportive, but also looking to the future as one of fun, involvement and…. Some Golf !
