Hello fellow Divots... we have several things to tell you about in this blog, so please read on when you have time.... ( it's a long one ! )
In this issue we are covering the results from the TRUMP GC Dubai Divots event..
The start of our 5 weeks at the Monty during Ramadan, Shirts, NoMoreBottles, Inter Society event at the Creek, our International event, Race to the Dark Side, Sponsorships, CHARITY and Memberships... phew !
Let us start with the outcome of our monthly event.. this time at the Trump GC.. on the 18th March... We had a great turnout and despite the club changing our tee times at the last minute... a great day was had by all but one... ( name withheld for legal reasons ) and who missed his tee time... Our apologies to those who suffered that time issue, but it was none of the Divots doing.... I suppose "on reflection" it proves that getting to an event a bit early is really the best way forward.. and more importantly allows for more drinking time... 😇...
Not going to name the winners here, you can see them... winners will be listed eventually on the calendar on the website events page.....
BTW.. it is remarkable how good our VC looks in these photos considering that he got home at 5am from a night of festivities ... and yet he still knows how to pose..
Congratulations to all winners, even to Michael who won the pink balls for the lowest score.... "is that twice now Michael ? "
The Divots at the Monty for Ramadan....
Thursday 23rd March was the first in our five weeks at the Monty during Ramadan.. this has become an annual events... and a great time was had by all last evening...... as we are mainly limited to 12 players, we only have one prize for the best Stableford score, which went to Richard Stanford.. nine holes... 20points... 2 stroke CUT was a unanimous decision, although some thought it should be 4... ! Well done Richard...
and don't forget this is a cumulative series for the five weeks, so there will be a prize for the highest points over that period... We still have some spaces for next Thursday, but they are filling up fast... see website and email me please....
BTW.. If anyone wants to sponsor this it is only one box of balls per week.... just saying !!!
NO MORE BOTTLES....
Sandy at NMB kindly supplied FREE bottles to everyone on our membership list and with each having their first names printed along with the Divots Logo etc.. and yet I still have bottles in my car for collection. THEREFORE, even if you were not a member when this happened last year, but you have a name that matches, please collect from me ... We will be asking NMB to sponsor an event later this year and its only fair that we support them fully.... SO... ( and having a system installed myself ) please contact me via email and I will put you in touch with Sandy who will provide you with a house water unit that is brilliant and has saved us at least 1000aed in plastic bottled water p.a. It has room temp/chilled and hot water outlet and runs from your mains... so no more plastic particles in your drinking water .... please support our sponsors and benefit at the same time..
I know I said we only had the Monty Ramadan series in April, but we now have another event which we MUST attend on the 29th April.. HOWEVER, it is only for 8 and you must comply with the rules for your handicaps .......
Therefore, we need 8 players with qualifying handicaps for this great event costing only 400aed inc food etc.... Please email me. captain@dubaidivots.com if you want put your name down for this...
The Dubai Divots go International .... ( maybe )
We have promised this since last year and now we are going to organise it... the big question is ... where ? Thailand, Vietnam, Europe or ??? So before I push some buttons, where do you our members want us to look into ? Please email me or pop it on the WhatsApp group.....
The Dubai Divots Race to the Dark Side Dubai
( RTDSD ).... our annual cumulative scores based on the best 4 out of the year.. will win a TROPHY... But you have to be in it to win it, and so you only need to play four times in this year out of the 11 that we are playing ( April is only Monty and inter-society .. which do not count ).
REMEMBER.. this is after only three events and its the top four events that you play that will count.. so this can change hugely come December when we announce the winner... The top ten in each division score from ten points down to one... so for example, even though I played all three events, because I did not win in any of them, my cumulative score gave me 21 points. Someone therefore winning four events could win 40 points and if we have more than one person on the same max 40 points.... then it will get interesting because we have not yet discussed what the hell we will do then ..... ! 😂😂😂. Maybe go to five events.. play-off, drinking competition, best joke award.. who knows ???
SPONSORS.....
Right, lets get down to an important element of our society.. SPONSORS. as you each know, we do not charge subs or prize fees, and you only pay for your golf, normally at a discounted rate.. and you get eGolf Megastore discount cards, you get free water bottles with your name on it, you get amazing prizes every month, discounts and offer from Hyatt Garage, monthly prizes from MyGolf...and many other benefits that are coming your way, simply by being a Dubai Divot.....
BUT, we can do none of this unless we have sponsors...
THEREFORE we are introducing a revived element to the society that our founders introduced very successfully back in 2010...
CHARITY.
So what's that got to do with SPONSORS ? Let me explain.... The more benefits that a sponsor gets from sponsoring the Dubai Divots, the better chances we have at getting that sponsorship in the first instance.... so by adding a Charitable element to our society, we will increase the likelihood of attracting additional sponsors.. and I must add that we are going for some big ones.... At this time, as we are in negotiations, we have selected Gulf for Good as our charity partner and who will ensure that we are legal and correct, because the laws in the UAE demand this.... I have meetings with them next week and I will publish to the members our findings.... BUT, if you are able to add to this in a constructive way, then we are all ears.....
PLUS.. if you know anyone who wants to be a sponsor for the Dubai Divots, then please let us know.... to give an idea of cost... they could simply sponsor a single item such as the "straightest drive" for a box of balls.... right up to a main event of six prizes for the two divisions 1st, 2nd, 3rd.. with a cost of anything from 1500aed to skies the limit...
But when a sponsor wants to show their charitable side in addition to this, then we propose that for each event that there will also be cash for charity as well as prizes for members.. This may or may not reduce the prize fund, but since we are all privileged to be playing golf in the sun and are fortunate enough to be able to live the lives that we do here in the UAE, we owe it to humanity to find ways to raise funds for those less fortunate than us.. and so we will..... 😎
NOT FORGETTING...
our esteemed VC is still awaiting the final agreements from Sponsors for our SHIRTS, which are ready and only awaiting the sponsors to fully confirm.. if you would like to be added to our shirts please let me know asap... time is now critical...we want to give them out next month ( May latest ).
Membership......
All of the above are reasons for a golfer to join our society, and indeed we are seeing new members on a fairly regular basis... but for us to be able to grow and donate to charity and ENJOY ourselves... ( remember that FUN is the VITAL ingredient in being a DUBAI DIVOT ) we need a large membership so that we can guarantee certain numbers for our monthly events...
Membership is free, and once the shirts are ready, the purchase of one or more is our only requirement of you.... so please let's go out and find some more members...
we currently have 100 signed up, between 30 to 40 paying each month, and we thank you for your amazing and continued support.... lets get some more onboard and build on the amazing society that was formed back in 2010 by our illustrious founders.
